Senate Indian Affairs Committee hearing on bills on Thursday

The
Senate Indian Affairs Committee will take up three bills at a hearing on Thursday.
S. 636 will help the
Quileute Tribe move out of a tsunami and flood zone.
The bill transfers 772 acres within
Olympic
National Park to the tribe for a safer reservation.
S. 703, the Helping Expedite and Advance Responsible Tribal Homeownership Act, allows tribes to streamline housing on their reservations. It takes the
Bureau of Indian Affairs out of the leasing process.
S. 546 extends federal recognition to the
Little Shell Tribe of Chippewa Indians in Montana. The BIA rejected the tribe's petition.
The hearing takes place at 2:15pm in Room 628 of the Senate Dirksen Office Building.
